Events diary
Trade events the company was exhibiting at, as listed in April 2004.
The events diary from the original Picdar site, reproduced as published. It lists the trade shows and conferences the company planned to attend, with the dates and halls as they stood at the time of the last update.
Every event on it has long since happened, and several of the shows named no longer run at all. The page is kept because the list is itself informative: it maps out the circuit on which publishing technology was sold in the early 2000s, when a picture desk system was demonstrated on a stand rather than trialled in a browser, and a buyer expected to see the software driven by a person before committing to it.
The pattern the list shows is worth noting. The events cluster around printing, publishing and broadcast trade fairs rather than around software conferences, which tells you where the purchasing decision sat: with production and pre-press departments, not with an IT function. That is the inverse of how asset management is bought now, and it explains a good deal about how the systems of the period were designed.
Nothing here should be read as current. Dates, stand numbers and venue names are left exactly as they were printed, and no attempt has been made to check them against what the organisers later did. For what this site covers today, the section indexes are the place to start.
