Picdar is written and edited in the United Kingdom. Correspondence about anything published here — corrections, rights queries, or a tip from inside a picture desk — goes to the editors by email, and is read by a person rather than a form.

Corrections are the priority. If a figure, a date or an attribution on this site is wrong, say which page it is on and what the correct version should be; the page is amended and the change noted on it.

Material reproduced from the original Picdar site is a separate matter. Those pages are kept as published in 2005 and are not edited, so a factual dispute about one of them is answered by a note rather than by a change to the text.

What we cover is narrow and deliberate: how pictures reach a publication, how they are catalogued and found again, what the licence on them actually permits, and what happens to all of it when a system is replaced. Tips from inside a picture desk, a library or a rights team are welcome, and the more specific the better — a screenshot of a field that nobody fills in is worth more here than a press release about a platform.

Quoting from this site is fine. Take a couple of sentences, say where they came from and link to the page they came from, and no permission is needed. Republishing a whole article is a different request, and the answer depends on the piece, so ask first.

Editorial coverage is not for sale. Nothing on this site is written, commissioned or angled in exchange for payment, and we do not accept guest posts. Advertising placements, where they appear, sit outside the editorial text and carry no endorsement of what they point at.

Correspondence is in English, and replies come from a small editorial desk rather than a support queue, so a considered answer usually takes a few days. A correction, by contrast, is dealt with as soon as it can be checked.
