What you may do with the material here, and what it is and is not offered as.

Published by the Picdar editorial desk

Read anything on this site, from anywhere, without asking. Quoting is likewise fine: take a couple of sentences, say where they came from and link to the page they came from, and no permission is needed. Republishing a complete article is a separate request and the answer depends on the piece, so ask the desk first.

Rights in the material are split. New editorial material is the desk’s own work. Archive material reproduced from the original Picdar site remains the property of whoever held the rights in it, and so do the photographs, screenshots and product names inside those pages; it is reproduced here as a record of a British software company and of the industry it served. If you hold rights in something reproduced on this site and want it handled differently, write to the desk.

New material is explanatory journalism about procedure, metadata and the rights that attach to photographs. It is not legal advice, and copyright, orphan works and release paperwork turn on facts specific to each case and on the law of a particular jurisdiction. Before acting on anything with money or liability attached to it, take advice from someone who can see your documents.

Archive pages are offered as a historical record and nothing more. Prices, specifications, availability, telephone numbers and support commitments inside them described the position in the year they were published and describe nothing now. The software company they refer to no longer trades, and none of those statements can be relied on or acted upon today.

The site is provided as it is. Considerable care goes into the material, but no warranty is given that every page is complete or current, and the desk is not liable for a decision taken on the strength of one. The remedy offered for a mistake is a correction, promptly made: tell the desk what is wrong.

Links to other sites are not endorsements, and their content is not under the desk’s control. Advertising placements, where they appear, sit outside the editorial text and are not recommendations.
